신광순은 하라 씨 명의의 여권을 훔쳐 일본으로 귀국했다. 신 씨는 1985년에 이 여권으로 한국에 입국하려다 체포되었다. 신 씨는 1999년 12월 31일 석방되어 이듬해 북송되었다.
