Mr. Hara was kidnapped by Sin Kwang-Sun, a North Korean spy.

Sin Kwang-Sun took Mr. Hara's identity and returned to japan, obtaining a passport using this identity. In 1985, Mr. Sin tried to enter South Korea with this passport and was placed under arrest. Mr. Sin was released on December 31, 1999 and returned to North Korea the following year.
